The Nexus One is official, Google is finally in the smartphone business, the question is what will Apple and RIM do about it. The phone is as close to the Iphone as it gets, but the most over looked news is how quickly Google is moving with it. Google has promised to release the CMDA version of the phone by spring. Thats means it will feature in the stores of Verizon in U.S. and Vodafone in Europe. That is a fast and premise move which could disturb the growth of the Iphone. Presently the Iphone is only avaliable for AT&T in the US, and “in some cases” Tmobile. There has being speculations in the past about Iphone coming to Verizon, the question is will Verizon still continue to push for Iphone if they have the Nexus One. Nexus One is expected to be better than Iphone in many respects, plus you can also expect many FREE services from Google. A company who built is businesses around giving free services to users and making fortune from charging companies for advertisments.
Presently the greatest obstacle around Nexus One acceptance to the world (GMS and CDMA) is the android apps availability. If the android market grows fast like number of android phone now in the market, then Apple should be worried, RIM should be feel concerned, and AT&T would have to work harder; otherwise it might be loosing valuable customers who have being sticking around because of the Iphone to Verizon and other carriers with better 3G and network coverage.
Overall this might be a turning point for the smartphone industry. A big battle between Apple and Google is looming, one is which Verizon, AT&T, TMobile, Vodafone and all other major carriers around the world will be called to action. Major hardware companies including Motorola, Samsung, LG, HTC and others are already covering their house with android phones.
In the end everyone will have Google to thank, for the android OS squard (open source operating system), AT&T will get better (or loose out), and more FREE calls will be made (when Google gets involved Free shows up a lot), 2010 will be the year of the android OS, and the smartphone industry will get better.
