Mobile World Congress Summary

There is a new apps war looming. There has being many great news coming from the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona: seems like everyone in Africa and the rest of the third world nations can finally afford a mobile phone as Vodafone revealed a $15 cellphone call the “Vodafone 150″, Microsoft revealed their latest window mobile OS with the name “Window Phone 7“, android is still hot as Acer added to the list with neoTouch (reminded me of the Matrix).

But the hottest story on mobile phone space remains apps. Every mobile OS is redesigning their platform to support apps of various features and capabilities, mobile service providers now have their own apps and apps stores, the android OS, android apps, and the android market are gaining momentums no thanks to Google for initiating the mobile alliance, but Apple with their staggering App store still remain on top, growing faster everyday with over 174, 000 apps by now.  Therefore, is no surprise that big name companies like AT&T, Verizon, LG, among others are forming another alliance named Wholesale Application Community (WAC), with a collective goal of bringing more applications to mobile phones. This bond may have gotten the blessing of Adobe, who promised to make it possible to port apps written in one platform to all other platforms without having to program over. Adobe is hoping to release a new Adobe AIR with this capability to programmers by the end of April. That is your Mobile World Congress summary, come back for more.
