Droid free apps and news reached out to Cellictica the company that developed Trippo Mondo – Voice Translator, one of the leading language translation apps in the Android market. The app supports translation for over 30 languages. From all indications, they are continuously working on making it better for users.
Check out Kimmo Sainio, Cellictica’s rep, answers to our questions below.
There are many good translation apps in the Android market, how is Trippo Mondo- Voice Translator different?
I agree there are lots of great translation apps in the Android Market. Cellictica focuses to bring the user experience to next level. We bring natural voice output using our own assets for multiple languages and a truly unique speech recognition feature as well which changes the experience completely. Now you can just speak anything you like to and it gets translated and spoken in another language. In the future we will still enhance the solution with completely new functionalities as well as new voice features. Trippo is aimed to be the Nr.1 travel solution for language problems.
One of the biggest shortcomings of this apps is that it only accepts English speech input, are you working on incorporating speech input for other languages?
Initially Trippo will support only English speech input optimally recognizing speech with US accent. We are planning to add all major European languages still this year, first ones appearing within 6 months.
Is there anything that Android is lacking presently that you think if included will make the platform better?
Android could include even better multimedia API’s, for low and high level access to the data, audio and video processing and codecs. Another shortcoming is the fragmentation of devices.
How does Android compares to other mobile platforms?
It’s very comfortable to develop code in Java, and at the same time there are also ways to use native code, for best performance. Most of the other platforms are either much more difficult or too limited in functional solutions.
What would you tell anyone that is thinking of developing for Android?
I would wish every developer welcomed to Android, we think they’ve made a good choice on platform and expect to see significant growth within 2010. As a small warning, I would like to highlight that only in some selected countries you can actually also sell the apps. Google Checkout doesn’t support for example our home base Finland, and we need to create a workaround on how to monetize the apps, which reduces our immediate attention to Android. Please check individually Android Market territory support allowing to prioritize your efforts.
