According to Mashable, a new research report by NPD shows that Android out sold the iPhone in the first quarter of this year. This report followed an initial report by Admob that indicated that Android market share as grown past that of iPhone is the US.

During the quarter, Android handsets accounted for 28% of smartphone sales, beating out iPhone OS and its 21% share. BlackBerry was the bestselling OS, with its devices capturing 36% of the market. NPD attributes the shift to strong sales of the Motorola Droid and Droid Eris.

The news follows a report last month from AdMob that showed Android’s share of the mobile OS market had actually grown past that of iPhone OS, at least in the U.S. Worldwide, iPhone OS still has a big lead, however, with 46% share compared to Android’s 25%. AdMob’s data is based on ad requests across mobile websites and applications.

The Droid Incredible has just being added to the Verizon’s list of Android phones and experts believe that it is doing well.  The Sprint EVO, believed to be the best Android so far, is also on its way too. Definitely, the story may change next month as Apple is expected to lunch the iPhone OS 4.  iPhone OS 4 has many important features that users has being waiting for including multi-tasking. How soon do you think Android will have more users that iPhone?
