Recently Android does not support all top level domains (TLDs), so before adopting your short URL remember this caution. This problem may lead your potential users not to able click your short URL that you generate. As best I can tell, the problem arises in part of the core Android library that many Android apps (mostly Twitter clients) rely on.
Some users recently experienced this issue, after being created their link in bit.ly almost immediately they noticed something was wrong when army of Twitter followers started complaining they couldn’t click the links in Tweets.
Some Twitter clients performed just fine, but others would not recognize any URL that ended in .me. I soon found out that the apps which use Android’s library did not work and the clients which used their own URL matcher generated the links just fine.
It looks like the issue was reported last year, but its status is still open (so don’t expect a fix anytime soon). Some of the Twitter apps which do not recognize .me links include the official Twitter and HTC’s Peep so they decided to drop their short URL and return to bit.ly.
