Android

While speaking at the 16th Annual Stanford Accel Symposium, Google Vice President of Corporate Development David Lawee indicated that the acquisition of the Android mobile platform was Google’s “best deal ever” for reasons that are more than obvious now.

For those of you who don’t know, Android Inc. was founded by Andy Rubin — who is now Vice President of Engineering and Chief Android Architect at Google. Google quietly acquired Android back in 2005 for an undisclosed amount of money. Some estimate that Google paid $50 million for Android.

Now, it’s important to note that Google does not make money directly from the Android mobile platform itself, as the company distributes it at no cost. Instead, Google makes revenue from ads displayed on Android through AdMob — which Google acquired for a whopping $750 million. Android is estimate to pull in $1 billion this year. With the way Android is gaining popularity, the number will definitely be greater next year.

How To: Root Instructions for enTourage Releases Kernel Source For eDGe

1 Comment Android, How Tos

For those who use enTourage eDGe dualbook ebook reader/tablet/notepad device understand the necessity to root the eDGe, with full adb access. It opens the eDGe platform to the developers, enabling the debug bridge and allowing root apps to be used. Sounds awesome? Wondering how we did it? We simply were able to decipher the developer’s debug password and use it to enable adb, which runs as root by default.

The root finally opens the possibility of the Android Market being ported to over-clocking and Froyo based ROM.

From a little nudging from the Android community, enTourage has finally agreed to release the kernel source code for the eDGe. Once the Linux kernel GPLv2 license is available, it will enable developers to begin working on eDGe-specific advancements like enhanced battery life, modified CPU clock speed and bug fixes.

Do you wish to learn how to root your enTourage eDGe and avail the blessings? Follow the instructions below.

Root Instructions for enabling root access via adb

  • Go to Settings -> Development – > Turn Debug On of Off
  • Enter 89985b36B7906bFfF and click ok.

Viola! Your device gets the root access over adb.

To allow root apps push new software to the device via installing Superuser white list.

  • Download edge.zip and unzip it. Run the following commands with adb.
  • adb shell busybox mount -o remount,rw /system
  • adb push Superuser.apk /system/app/Superuser.apk
  • adb push su /system/xbin/su
  • adb shell busybox chmod 04755 /system/xbin/su
  • Now, reboot your device.

Your root app will display and work.

Try it and let us know your response. Watch the video below.

Oracle says Google copied Java code directly for Android

No Comments Android, Android Apps, Google, News

As the lawsuit against Android and Google continues to pile up, Oracle amended its Java complaint against Google over Android patent infringement and provided line-by-line comparisons in its exhibits.

In its tweaked complaint, Oracle ups the ante against Google, who has called the lawsuit baseless. Oracle, which first sued Google over Android in August, said:

In at least several instances, Android computer program code also was directly copied from copyrighted Oracle America code. For example, as may be readily seen in Exhibit J, the source code in Android’s “PolicyNodeImpl.java” class is nearly identical to “PolicyNodeImpl.java” in Oracle America’s Java, not just in name, but in the source code on a line-for-line basis.

Oracle Java Android source code

As you can see for yourself, the code is almost identical. On the flip side, however, this kind of lawsuit are always end with big fat checks settlements. Android is here to stay, as it’s becoming a big source of revenue for Google, raking in $1 billion a year already.
