Google.com Mobile Interface Receives Android App Search

No Comments Android, Google, News

I’m not sure when and exactly how Google did this, but today I found out a tab available in the mobile search interface called “Android Apps.” Any guesses what’s it’s for?

Clicking on each app would pop open the Market app and works exactly the way you would expect. The interface displays star rating to help weed out the usability, price, company name and the number of reviews. We hope they would soon introduce an easy to navigate method via an Install button that would support a single click.

I’m wondering what it would be like to search through 100,000 Google apps. Feel free to respond.

HTC Finally Returns With Fancy Widget After Months of Disappearance

No Comments Android Apps, News

The uniqueness of HTC Sense UI is definitely the clock/date/calendar widget. That out of the box widget has never failed to amaze us, every time a new and improved version of it is launched. I guess most of us go green at the sight of this amazing app, if we don’t posses it. Fancy Widget evolved from the Sense widget, while adding a host of handy features.

In due course of time, it instantly hit the popularity charts and ended up on HTC Android phones. The reigns of this app was give in the hands of Google, that promised to re-build a more powerful app and re-release it with an updated UI. This brings us to the present day.

Fancy Widget Version 2 was released on 25th October 2010 in the Android Market, with a brand new design and architecture. The UI is certainly different and unique- it is functional and easy to read as before and does not copy Sense. So what’s new? Read on and find it out yourself.

  • Gorgeous digital clock with customizable date and time format
  • Weather with attractive icons
  • Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature options
  • Geo-location for weather forecasts. Alternatively, search any city’s weather by name or zip code
  • Configurable refresh intervals
  • Automatic sunset/sunrise time calculation
  • Tap on the widget to launch the application of your choice
  • Landscape mode support
  • Multiple screen size support like QVGA, HVGA and WVGA
  • Multiple language support

The code of Fancy Widget Version 2 being re-written offers stability and better adaptability to different devices. If you have used the old FW before, you will notice that the new version has more features. To top the icing on the cake, if you upgrade your old app, you will not lose the old information. Why? Since the new version utilizes a different package name, therefore it’s absolutely a fresh app in the market. Install it next to your old version and judge for yourself.

Our Verdict: Very Cool and Jazzy app. Go for it!

Paypal to support Android Market, iTunes, and the Blackberry App World

No Comments Android, Android Apps, News

Seems like someone at PayPal let out the cat t0o early on the upcoming PayPal support for Android Market. For most of the Android-sphere, this is a long awaited feature for most Android users. Both buyers and developers, alike, are hoping PayPal integration will increase apps sales.

Apparently, the announcement was only online for a very short time, but that was long enough for it to be Tweeted and Google to cache the page immortalizing someone’s mistake.

PayPal’s Naveed Anwar was the name attached to the announcement. The announcement also noted that with the addition of Support for Android Marketplace it was on all platforms including iTunes and the Blackberry App World as a payment method.

Is Google working on taking Nexus 2 to the rest of the world?

No Comments Android, Google, News

Nexus one was not a big success in sales, it has a bigger success in transforming the Android-sphere. It was the first Android phone to be called a “super phone”. Google used it to introduce new and improved Android 2.0. The rest, as they say, is history.

Rumors are popping up that Google is starting to form new alliance to make the Nexus 2. The source has it that the Carphone Warehouse, will be working with Google as the single retailer for the forthcoming Nexus 2.  The Carphone Warehouse, is Europe’s largest independent mobile phone retailer, with over 1,700 stores across Europe. They are based in the United Kingdom.

If this is true, it means that Google in ready to take Android to the rest of the world and probably attack Symbian bases. While iOS, Blackberry, Android dominate the US, Symbian is still the big market leader in the Europe and the rest of the world.
