‘Play’ Android App at AOL, T-Mobile Launch

AOL is roping in the 2011 SXSW Music Festival, as it has partnered with T-Mobile to launch a free Android app, Play by AOL Music. Whether or not you’re fortunate enough to be in Austin during the festival, but you sure can listen to over 100 tracks from SXSW and live stream SXSW’s concerts in real-time.

In addition to accessing existing libraries on the phones, users can tune in to Spinner’s “MP3 of the Day” and indulge in full-length album previews, under “CD Listening Parties,” prior to the final release. If thinking of updating your album art, partnership with Rdio enables customers to use their own images to share tracks: 30-second previews for general users or full tracks for Rdio subscribers.

It is a social app, i.e., sharing songs in AOL Play is like posting a status update in Facebook. You friends can follow you or simply share your passion amongst your social network in real-time, without leaving the app. When it comes to your inner circle, you can “Like” or comment on friends’ posts.
