No Comments Android, Google

Andrew Norman Wilson was fired for investigating the working condition of Google’s employees that work in building 3.1459.

We have all seen different Youtube videos of Googleplex and the working conditions in Google. It was awesome, a fairy tale working environment that makes everyone dream of working with Google one day, with the hope of enjoying all the amenities as shown in the video.  But not all that glitters is gold. Not everyone that works at Google really enjoys the dream jobs that we saw in the Youtube videos. Just like me, you will be surprised to see and hear that there are different working classes with different amenities and resources at Google. Is this Google the company that we all love? Watch the video below, as Andrew account the experience that led t him loosing his job.

Google needs your location data, and your phone will provide it

No Comments Android, Android OS

Larry Page became the CEO of the big G, again, the company that we all love. At least we love Android, probably the 3rd most important Google product now- after search and Adsense. In case you don’t believe it yet, let me beat it into you again, mobile is the future of the web and everything we do online, from searches to social networks, eCommerce to email, and hence the future of our darling Google. But more important in mobile is location. Location accurate search results with location targeted ads is the essence of mobile web, particularly mobile search. The tech-heads at Google know that. And the new boss is not taking it lightly.

According to San Jose Mercury News, an email was leaked that detailed a conversation between top Googlers inlcuding new CEO Larry Page, Android boss, Andy Rubin, Google location product manager Steve Lee among others.  Larry wants answers on why partner companies will be using  competitors location data.

Last year, Motorola, one of Google’s biggest mobile partners, was planning on using Skyhook Wireless’s location data for its handsets over Google’s location data.

“I cannot stress enough how important Google’s wifi location database is to our Android and mobile product strategy,” Google location service product manager Steve Lee wrote. “We absolutely do care about this (decision by Motorola) because we need wifi data collection in order to maintain and improve our wifi location service.”

Google is in trouble in most of Europe on location data collected with WIFI some of which contain inappropriate images.

We all need to be aware that location data is very important to mobile advertisement and expect Google and other big companies to want to capture as much as possible information from your phone with or without your knowledge.

No Comments About, Android, Android OS, How Tos, Tablet

The eReader from Barnes & Noble, Nook Color is a $250, 7-inch touchscreen Android device that allows you to read your favourite books, magazines, newspaper and any kind of print media. Additionaly, owners can play a few apps like Chess, Sudoko, Crossword puzzles, and Pandora. If desiring to own an Android tablet, but don’t want to invest a huge sum of money, then we have a better idea- hack your Nook Color to make it a fully functional Android tablet. Then you can install your favourite homescreen UI and your favourite Android apps

With the below mentioned steps you can convert your Nook Color into an Android tablet, all thanks to NookDevs.com- the brain behind the hacking solution. The procedure of rooting Nook Color is via a Windows computer. The same process can be done from Mac or Linux as well, however, you must refer to NookDevs guide for details.

Requirements:

  • Nook Color eReader device
  • MicroSD card (with an SD adapter, unless your computer has built-in SD card slot)- 128MB/ 1GB

Procedure:

Step 1: Charge up and then power on your Nook Color and register your Barnes & Noble account on the device.

Step 2: Mount your SD card on your Windows PC and ensure all the files are cleared off of it. Go to My Computer and check the drive letter of the SD card.

Step 3: Download Win32DiskImager and then extract the ZIP file.

Step 4: On the Nook Color, go to Settings | Device Info | About Your Nook Color and check “Software version”

Step 5: Download “auto nooter” that creates a bootable SD card image for booting the Nook Color. The version you must download depends on the software version of your Nook Color. If running Nook 1.0.0 then download auto-nooter-2.12.18.img.zip and if you’re running Nook 1.0.1 then download auto-nooter-2.12.25.img.zip. For later versions, check the NookDevs guide.

Step 6: After auto-nooter download, unzip it and note the location.

Step 7: Open Win32DiskImage.exe

Step 8: Click the folder icon to select the downloaded and unzipped auto-nooter file.

Step 9: Click the Device drop-down and select the drive letter of SD card.

Step 10: Click the Write button. The software will erase the MicroSD card and replace its contents with the bootable Android files. Once completed, click to Exit.

Step 11: Remove the SD/MicroSD card from your computer.

Step 12: Hold down the power button on your Nook Color and then select “Power off”

Step 13: Insert the MicroSD card into the Nook Color.

Step 14: Plug the Nook’s USB cable into the PC and into the Nook Color. This will cause the Nook Color to boot.

Step 15: If using auto-nooter for Nook 1.01 or higher, then it will automatically boot into the boot animation and the new boot sequence, after the root process is completed.

If using auto-nooter for Nook 1.0.0, then once the device displays in Windows, wait 5 minutes for the scripts to finish running and then disconnect the USB cable, remove the MicroSD card, and hold down the power button for 15 seconds to boot the Nook Color. It will boot into the Nook logo animation and the new boot sequence.

Step 16: Once the Nook Color boots, Android logo and welcome message is diaplyed. Touch the Android logo and then log in with your Google account. You can begin downloading apps and customizing your Nook Color as an Android tablet.

Bingo! Your Nook Color is rooted and running your favorite Android apps, you can always try out an early version of the Honeycomb 3.0 tablet OS that has been hacked to run on the Nook Color using a bootable MicroSD card.

Let us know, how well the process worked.
