No Comments Android, News

T-mobile G2

The moment is near: If you want a phone that echoes the glory of the first Android smartphone ever, the T-Mobile G1, you can now pre-order the T-Mobile G2 and receive it by October 6.

This offer is available only to existing T-Mobile customers, who will be getting their G2 early only if they order it before October 4.

The cost of the device is $250 before a $50 mail-in rebate with the standard two-year contract. Remember, though, the G2 will also be available in Best Buy stores on October 6 for $199 after a $50 instant rebate and a two-year contract. We guess the question you have to ask yourself is: Do you feel like parting (at least for a while) with an extra 50 bucks to get this phone a couple of days earlier?

T-Mobile G2 will be based on Android 2.2 and it will support HSPA+, the first T-Mobile to do so. It also has a full QWERTY keyboard, a 3.7-inch screen, an 800 MHz Snapdragon CPU, and a 5-megapixel camera with a LED flash and autofocus, capable of recording HD (720p) videos.

6 ways to keep your Android phone always running smooth and fast

1 Comment Android, Android Apps, How Tos

It gets frustrating when you push a button and you are sitting there for another 20 seconds waiting for the next thing to happen. You start to get mad at the phone when it is actually your fault. Just like your car, your Android phone needs some maintenance to keep it working smooth and nice every time. Here are 6 things you should do regularly to keep your Android phone working fine:

1
Remove the Battery:
If you are familiar with electronics this shouldn’t sound funny to you. Notice that this is the first thing tech support always ask you to do whenever you call for help on must electronics. You should turn your phone off and remove the battery, maybe once every month. Besides the tons of Apps, musics, and files that you have downloaded to your phone, this is as close to factory condition that your phone will get, unless you go to reinstallation.

2
Deleting Market Cache:
TO delete market click, click menu> settings> applications> manage applications> market> clear cache. This is a simple and effective way to free up a little space, especially if you install and uninstall a lot of applications.

3
Clear Browser:
To clear browser caches, click browser> more> settings> clear cache> clear history> clear all cookie data
The browser is definitely the bear that raids your storage. Clearing your browser cache regularly will free up lots of memory space.

4
Remove unused Widgets:
If you have many widgets on your home screen, they will drain your battery and slow down your phone because they use some processor power too. Weather widget is a good example of this as we only look at it once a day really. Same as Facebook widgets. So remove those widgets unless you absolutely need them.

5
Always used TasKiller:
TasKillers are short cut way to end many Android apps that you may be running at once. You will save battery and gain speed.

6
Remove unused Apps:
Just go through your applications and uninstall the ones that you do not use anymore. If you want to keep an app handy but not installed… you can back it up on your sd card then uninstall the app and reinstall from your sd card when you need it. With Android 2.2 saving apps on your sd card is easy.

If you know a few other things that could be done to keep Android phones running fast like new, please post them in the comment.  If you like the post, follow us on Facebook by clicking the Facebook like button to the right. Thanks.

How to clear the browser cache on an Android phone

Clearing the browser cache on an Android device can free up space if you are running low. The Android Chrome web browser saves parts of the the web pages that you visit on the Internet. This can significantly speed up your web browsing experience. Unfortunately, the saved files take up space on your Android phone and prevent you from using all of the space on your phone. Regularly clearing your cache can help your device performance, especially if it does not have much free space or did not have much space on your phone.

How to clear the browser cache:

  1. Start the Chrome lite web browser.
  2. Push the “Menu” button to open the options for the Chrome browser. These options allow you to: select a new location, open a new window, access the bookmarks functions and access the “More” functions. Select the “More” to bring up these features.
  3. The “More” functions allow you to do things like search on the current web page, select certain text, get page information, share the page, look at the downloads and change the settings. Select the “Settings” option to bring up the settings menu.
  4. There are a lot of options in the Settings menu. Scroll down until you see “Clear Cache”. Select the “Clear cache”
  5. You will get a dialog asking you to validate that you want to clear the cache. Select “OK” and the cache on your Android phone should be erased. If you are running low on space, some of the memory should now be available.

With your browsing history gone, you will have more memory space on your phone.

This should work for all Android phones: Liquid Stream, A10, Thunder, Zio, M6000, Xperia X8, Sage, Charm Optimus, Chic Optimus One, Intercept (Moment 2), Desire HD , Epic 4G, Vibrant, Captivate, G1, Blaze / Vision Droid 2, MT810, Beam Motosplit i5500 Galaxy 5 LePhone Liquid E M1 Droid X I1 / Opus One Titanium Aria myTouch 3G Slide Garminfone FlipOut Wildfire EVO Aero / Mini 3iX Streak Galaxy S / Fascinate Optimus Q (LG C710 Aloha, LG LU2300) Ally 845(Vodafone) Xperia X10 Mini Galaxy A / Apollo / M100S Droid Incredible GT540 Optimus Pulse Mini (T-Mobile) CLIQ XT(USA)/ Quench beTouch E110 Legend Desire / Passion / Bravo Backflip Devour One Motoroi Nexus One Xperia X10 Archos Phone

What can you expect from the Google Phone

Now is almost certain that Google the “ultimate provider of free services” will have their phone on the market early next year. Google has confirmed that its employees are already testing the phone in house, a process where Google employees test their products before offering it for public users. While awaiting the phone I am filled with high expectations because of the following reasons:

1.

Google Vs Apple:

This will be the first real head-to-head battle between Google and Apple in hardware. Since coming up with Iphone, Apple has effectively triumphs every cell phone and smartphone manufacturer in both revenue and possibly sales. They did so while also expanding the cell phone userbilities. We now expect more from our cell phones far beyond making and receiving calls. Apple transformed the cell phone business. Google has proven to be a software expert, can they explore their software knowledge to push the limit of what Apple has shown us that smartphone are can do? I hoping that the Nexus will have 2 maybe 3 new hardware, software concept that has not be being explored before, and few of improvements on the old features.

2.

Google Voice and Video Streaming:

Google will have the ultimate decision in implementing the Google Voice in this case. I will also be expecting googlers to have prepared a perfect recipe for effective implementation of Google voice on the Nexus one. Google went shopping recently: acquiring On2 a video compression technology company. Will they use this new technology to improve video chat and video call, after all this technology must useful for something. They also acquired Gizmo5, expert in VoIP service. Google Voice + Gizmo5 (VoIP) + easily accessible WiFi + Google business Module (Free) >= Free VoIP. This could easily hurt the business of major cell service providers (at&t, sprint, and Verizon), and also change the cell phone business.

Lets us all cross our arms and wait patiently, but truth be told, anything short of an improvement on the Iphone plus a few extra free services will be a disappointment to me.
