SlingPlayer private beta phase now ready for Android

No Comments Android Apps, News

Sing player Mobile is coming from sing media in next summer for Android when we caught up with them at the gdgt live event in Austin, but according to information received by Phandroid earlier today the app is entering private beta right now.

They also stated that Sing player Mobile is their biggest challenge to fasten their position, but obviously that was an exercise in pointlessness.

Hi ,

The wait is finally over! A new private beta is available for the SlingPlayer Mobile for Android. Since your beta profile is a good match for testing, you have the opportunity to join the new beta program.

Please note this is a special invitation so do not share this email or the below URL with anyone else. Also, do not mention you received an invitation, that the beta is starting, or anything that’s related. Due to the overwhelming demand for this program, we’d like to keep things as quiet as possible. Just think of it as a secret club! SlingPlayer Mobile for Android Beta Invite

Sling’s ability to basically serve up all the services from your home system is certainly unique and I was a big fan and user on my old HTC Touch, but it will be interesting to see if the need to purchase separate hardware will prove too much of a deterrent for potential users considering all the streaming competition coming to Android this year.

Google draft to distribute digital books for Android

No Comments Android Apps, News

According to Wall Street journal Google is launching its own digital book distribution network, similar to Amazon or Apple iBooks. The service, called Google Editions, looks to launch as early as late June or July, and will break into an extremely tough market.

We are waiting to see how Editions plays with both Android and Google Books. With Android coming to a number of tablet-based computers in the next little while, would it be too far of a stretch to assume that Google will be featuring Editions prominently? Google has a vast book library already in its possession via Google Books, so hopefully this will serve as an advantage when it comes to bolstering their offerings to the public.

If we’re willing to speculate, it could also be surmised that Google would need a platform to sell these books on; they could easily just make an app and put it on the marketplace, or if they wanted to be ambitious, they could make a desktop client similar to iTunes. A single program for purchasing apps and syncing media would solve many of the decentralization problems Android’s marketplace currently faces.

I know a lot of Android users would enjoy that, as the closest thing we have to that right now is Double Twist, and even then its full functionality is only available for Mac OS’.
