7-inch Android-powered DELL Tablet PC Made Public: Follow-on from the Dell Streak

No Comments Android, News

Michael Dell revealed at Oracle conference in San Francisco this week that his company is working on a 7-inch Android powered tablet PC.
Earlier this year the Dell Streak 5-inch screen tablet was launched, which we assume is the base of the new DELL tablet. Apart from a large screen, the CEO did not divulge any further information.
The company also plans to sell Streak via the popular US electronics retail chain- Best Buy, beginning this October. It sure is a departure from Dell’s regular marketing strategy.
Just when we thought the new tablet PC market was saturated, Dell UK surprised us, touchscreen tablet PC shipments are expected to top 15.4 million units in 2010.
Analysts at iSuppli forecast an increase to 76.7 million units by 2012, with companies like CES 2011 and BlackBerry launching interesting new tablets and devices like BlackPad’ 7-inch screen tablet in the near future.

Dell Streak is for doctors and nurses

No Comments Android, News

Dell Streak

Dell yesterday announced that it would be integrating healthcare software in its the Android tablet, Streak. The software will enable doctors to access patient information and electronic medical records as they go about their daily work.

“When we designed the device we thought about what a clinician might like, it’s perfect size to fit into a lab coat, and allows you to be able to communicate anywhere,” said Jamie Coffin, vice president of Dell Healthcare and Life Sciences.

According to Dell, Streak can help in extending a hospital’s information network, allowing for secure and fast access to patient data.

Healthcare market has emerged as a major focus for Dell, which bought Perot Systems last year for $3.9b – bringing in a strong base of healthcare customers. The company is hoping to help “extend a hospital’s information network, allowing for secure and fast access to patient data” with the device. “The Streak will offer access to Dell’s mobile clinical computing platform via an app, tapping into patient information stored in datacenters, rather than on the device itself.

Dell  Streak sells for $549.99, or $299.99 on a 2-year contract with AT&T.

Dell Streak 5: Coming this summer

No Comments Android, Android Apps, News

You can’t say Dell streak 5 just a Smartphone, formerly it was referred as Mini 5. It is a great news that the upcoming Dell streak is “a complete portable tablet PC”

In January Michael Dell showed it to public but you can’t expect it at now, it will be in the market later this summer. The Streak will ship first in June across the UK at O2 stores, Carphone Warehouse, and Dell.co.uk.

While it initially looked like a stellar device, the Streak has suffered the same fate as the Xperia X10. Both were revealed too early ahead of their U.S. launch dates and have been passed up by newer phones from HTC and Motorola. The current version of the Streak is still running Android 1.6 (like the X10), but Dell is expected to upgrade it to Android 2.2 and beyond later this year.

We are not sure which carrier will be the bearer in U.S., but Mr. Dell himself said it was coming to AT&T and this was confirmed by a listing on the FCC site.

Do you think it can compete with Apple iPad?
