Facial Recognition Coming Soon to Android Phones – Recognizr

No Comments Android, Apps

The Astonishing Tribe (TAT) a Swedish software and design company is developing an astounding application for Android phones.

“Recongnizr” an Android app is a mobile prototype that allows the users to “watch” the details of an individual by focusing the handset at their face. Details like full name, address, phone number, email, their social networks and the web services used by them are reflected on the handset screen. Recongnizr users can also display their traditional phone book details with their profile image on their handset.

When focusing at the desired individual a square depicted by a broken line appears on the handset screen. It resembles the auto-focus system of digital cameras. When the target face is in clear focus, the square outline turns from grey to green and the social networking icons zoom and float around the targeted face.

However, for the application to function, both the users need to install and run the application on their Android based handsets, simultaneously. Since, the prototype is currently for Android-based phones, therefore the database of users is also limited.

Dan Gärdenfors, head of user experience research at TAT, announced that his company plans to partner with an efficient company who can catapult this prototype to the market. He anticipates having a commercial application available in a little as a month or two
