No Comments Android phone spec, Android phones, News

After the much awaited guesses and leaks, Samsung has finally confirmed its Continuum phone for Verizon. The phone scheduled for shipment on November 11th, is the first Smarthphone with a dedicated ticker display. What it means – Samsung is referring to the secondary 1.8-inch colour screen with capacitive touch buttons below.

We expect the specs to be in line with Galaxy S-series handsets, except for the ticker. However, hands-down information will be revealed at Samsung’s Mobile event, today. Let’s hear the specs in the interim

  • 3.4-inch Super AMOLED primary display, 1.8-inch Super AMOLED secondary “ticker” display.
  • “Grip sensor” allows you touch the bottom sides of the phone to light up the ticker.
  • Android 2.1 (we expected a better version, hope they’ll upgrade soon).
  • Bing Maps / Bing Search (Google Maps would have been a better option)
  • Samsung 1GHz Hummingbird processor
  • Six-axis sensor with accelerometer
  • 5- megapixel camera, shoots 720p video
  • 802.11n & Wi-Fi.
  • 8GB microSD card

The icing on the cake – It’s worth $200 with two-year contract, and you get $100 mail-in rebate.

Viola! I’m eagerly waiting for it. How about you?

Samsung Unveils Nexus 2 on November 8th- Reality or Hoax?

No Comments Android, News

The latest rumours doing the mill – Google working on Nexus Two. We got the latest buzz from an anonymous tipster who informed us that Samsung will unveil Nexus 2 with Android Gingerbread on November 8. If this anecdote stands true, we will get a better smartphone than both Nexus One and Samsung Galaxy S.

Google is accelerating the developments related to Gingerbread, and Samsung is holding an event to launch a “next Android device” it is likeable that Google Gingerbread might be announced on the same day.

A separate report by City A.M., tell us that Google is working with UK based Carphone Warehouse to introduce Nexus Two by Holiday season. However, HTC’s name as the device partner was hardly mentioned.

Google and Samsung must’ve weighed their humungous success with Samsung Galaxy S and therefore the new android phone is loaded with 1GHz Hummingbird CPU along with powerful PowerVR SGX 540 GPU to provide a good support to the Android OS. Additionally, a Super AMOLED touchscreen in the offing to steal your attention.

Google is certainly going big with Android as we’ve heard the recent developments of PlayStation Phone.

Now we’ll have to wait until November 8 for the curtains to pull down and see if Samsung actually announces the Nexus Two with Android Gingerbread.

No Comments Android, Android phone spec, Iphone, News

This news comes straight from the horse’s mouth – Gary Twohig, General Manager, Samsung Ireland. He disclosed in a lighter tone about his plans of launching 10-inch Galaxy Tablet in the first half of 2011.

This Android slate will include the V8 JavaScript Engine, a touted feature in Froyo (Android 2.1). We assume; the new tablet will work on the upgraded version of Android, i.e. Android 3.x – Gingerbread/ Honeycomb. This OS will be better equipped to run on larger screens.

Until Samsung’s debut on a better OS, we have to wait and watch.

Samsung i8520 'Halo'

Samsung i8520 'Halo'

Can we call it a super android?

According to the folks at Engadget, Samsung is about to release an android 2.1 based phone called “i8520 Halo”. The phone comes with the following features:

a 3.7-inch WVGA Super AMOLED display (bigger than the Wave’s 3.3-incher), 8 megapixel autofocus camera with flash (VGA on the front), 720p / 30fps video encoding / decoding, DivX and Xvid playback support, Bluetooth 2.1, standard 3.5mm headphone jack, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, A-GPS, 16GB of internal storage and microSD expansion, stereo speakers, DLNA support, and — get this — a DLP pico projector integrated. The spec-sheet also lists a “Specialized Projector UI” as one of the features, suggesting it’ll look a little different when you toss it up onto the big screen. This quad-band GSM / EDGE phone with tri-band UMTS 900 / 1900 / 2100 will ship in Q3 to Europe and Asia with a chance for a US version at some point later.

This definitely a step forward for the android phone family. An android phone with a projectors, a 8 megapixel camera, and all the apps in the android market? Samsung phone users should be finally ready to join  the android family. What more can you ask for? Do you think android is finally becoming a global phenomenon?
