Sprint 4G

Sprint PCs lunched 4G service in Orlando today. HTC EVO 4G and Samsung Epic 4G users will be happy for this as they are already being charged $10 per month, even without 4G service. The announcement follows last week’s Nashville 4G launch and the introduction of Epic 4G in the beginning of the month. Sprint’s 4G service now covers 53 markets.

Sprint EVO vs. Tethering vs. Android Phone

No Comments Android, Android Apps, News

Android tethering is somewhat controversial but an interesting application. Yet a number of carriers prohibit tethering in their terms of service, Android users can easily pass away with it with some free apps.

T-Mobile was first carrier that banned tethering for WiFi Tether for Root users from their Android market listing. T-Mobile’s terms of service state, “Your Data Plan is intended for Web browsing, messaging, and similar activities on your device and not on any other equipment. Unless explicitly permitted by your Data Plan, other uses, including for example, tethering your device to a personal computer or other hardware, are not permitted.”

In distribution agreement with Google, each carrier signed to place the Android Market client on their devices, so apps listing will depends. If an application violates a carrier’s TOS, then it can be involuntary removed. But all policies are not clear to me because other tethering apps like EasyTether and PdaNet still remain up.

Google also added USB tethering and a WiFi hotspot support to Android 2.2 for internet connection.

Each carrier will be allowed to remove the native tethering options from their Android 2.2 firmwares and I suspect quite a few will. Both Sprint and Verizon currently charge $29.99 per month to add a tethering data-plan.

I think all carrier will take their separate initiative to stop it. Sprint was probably the first to realize this and that’s why they are slapping a monthly $10 Android tax to every customer who purchases the HTC EVO 4G. They know Android customers are data-hungry, so they are going to charge them for the additional strain on their wireless network.

You may have quest to know the free tethering of Sprint EVO, you can easily download PdaNet from the Sprint Android Market and easily tethered in a few clicks. I’m not going to write a how-to guide and encourage tethering, but anyone can find these tether apps by doing a quick Google search.

Do you use tethering in your Android Phone? What is your opinion about this situation?

Fring: First video call to Android and Sprint EVO

No Comments Android, Android Apps, News

HTC EVO 4G and Samsung Galaxy S spotted with dual cameras but the front facing is not able to use for video call. Google still wait to add support dual cameras to the android SDK and app developers working with some carriers to support these new devices.

QiK developers in now working with Sprint chose for streaming video app to include with the EVO 4G, but the current version loaded on the phone does not support video calling yet. I had been trying to gain access to the latest beta to test this new feature out, but I’ve had no luck so far.

The popular messaging option developed by Fring now support front facing cameras and video calling. The app just went live so I have not had the chance to test it with other EVO users, but that is on the agenda for my next YouTube video I film.

You have to wait to get latest update from Fring, so full report will come later.

Fring has yet to update their blog with additional details, so check back later for a full report.
